Number Plates 4 Less UK is a small number plate maker based at the National MOT Centre on Victoria Road in Skegness, Lincolnshire. For the past three years it has made plates for drivers across Lincolnshire and the rest of the UK, from straightforward replacement plates to deep laser-cut 4D and 5D characters. Every plate is made to order in its workshop, and road plates are made to the British Standard BS AU 145e.

The business offers a lot of choice: eleven finishes, including 2D printed, 3D gel, 4D 3mm and 5mm, 4D matte, 4D ghost, 5D, obsidian and retro, and ten shaped sizes alongside the standard 520 × 111mm plate. The brief was to make that range easy to understand and to make ordering feel simple, even though road-legal plates come with legal checks that many drivers don’t know about.

I designed the homepage around the product itself. A large plate preview sits at the top, and visitors can switch between all eleven finishes to see how each one looks, with a one-line explanation of each, such as “raised, domed resin characters with a glossy finish” for 3D gel. A shapes and sizes section draws the Perfect, Hex and Mohex plates to the same scale, so people can compare lengths at a glance, with a clear note that short and shaped plates aren’t legal for every registration.

Ordering happens by phone or email for now, so the site makes that the obvious next step. A four-step “How ordering works” guide covers choosing a plate, getting in touch, showing documents and dispatch, with plates sent within 24–48 hours and delivered in 1–3 working days. Because the law requires proof of identity and the right to use the registration, the guide sets out the accepted documents in two plain columns, based on the GOV.UK list, so customers have them ready before they call. A questions section answers what makes a plate road legal, delivery, collection, shaped plates and pricing.

The contact page includes a short form with drop-downs for every finish and size, which opens the customer’s email app with their order details ready to send. A “Build your plate” page is marked as coming soon, ready for online ordering later.

The design uses a dark, automotive look with a bright yellow plate as the hero, and it’s mobile-first, because most people order plates from their phone. Each page has its own title and description, and the business’s name, address and phone number are set up as structured data, so Number Plates 4 Less UK is easier to find when people search for number plates in Skegness.
