Local research

I checked 48 local business websites in Kingston upon Thames.

Independent businesses only, homepages checked in October 2026. Most of these are quick fixes, and each one costs enquiries.

39%have no tap-to-call phone link on their homepage
50%don’t name their town in the page title Google shows
8%didn’t load at all: expired domain, error page or broken security certificate
57%show a way to book or order online on their homepage

Businesses with a website listed on OpenStreetMap or TrustATrader, across 3 towns; chains and my own clients left out. Each homepage was opened once and checked for a tap-to-call link, a booking or ordering option, a phone-friendly layout and the page title. No business is named. Want yours checked?

More detail

Working across Kingston upon Thames.

The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames is a mix of very different places. Kingston town centre is one of south-west London’s main shopping destinations; Surbiton has a busy station community and a parade of independents; New Malden is known for its large Korean community, with Korean restaurants and grocers along the High Street; and Tolworth, Norbiton and Chessington are largely residential, with plenty of local trades and family services along the A3 corridor.

Each of those places has different customers, so a one-size-fits-all website rarely works. A Korean restaurant in New Malden, a salon in Surbiton and a roofer in Chessington all need to be found on Google Maps, but they need different pages, words and calls to action. I start by understanding who your customers are and how they search, then design around that.

Competition on Google is tougher in Kingston than in most of the surrounding area, because the town centre attracts larger chains and agencies. Independent businesses win by being specific: naming the neighbourhood they serve, showing real prices and photos, collecting genuine reviews and keeping their Google Business Profile complete. Those details matter just as much for a tutor in Tolworth or a cleaner in Chessington as for a shop near the Market Place.

Kingston sits right next to Hampton Wick and East Molesey, where most of my client websites are. I also designed the site for Café Macarong, a Korean-inspired café group, so I understand how to present Korean food and bilingual businesses clearly online.

FAQs

Questions people ask.

Do you cover Tolworth, Chessington and Norbiton as well as Kingston?

Yes. I work with businesses across the whole Royal Borough, including Kingston town centre, Surbiton, New Malden, Tolworth, Norbiton and Chessington.

Can you build a website in English and Korean?

Yes. A site can have pages in both languages, so New Malden businesses can serve Korean-speaking and English-speaking customers clearly.

How can I compete with bigger businesses in Kingston town centre?

Focus on what people search for locally: a complete Google Business Profile, genuine reviews, clear prices and a fast mobile site. Small businesses often beat chains on those details.

Can we meet in Kingston?

Yes. I’m happy to meet at your premises or somewhere central in Kingston to talk through your project.
